The Carmen Thyssen Museum and the ONCA Foundation are launching a music composition contest for the museum’s new exhibition

The contest seeks new artists to enrich the visitors’ experience with a musical discourse inspired by the works of the collection.

The Carmen Thyssen Museum Andorra and the ONCA Foundation have launched a call for entries for a music composition contest, aiming to select new artists who will be part of the musical discourse for the museum’s new exhibition. Interested parties can submit their applications from today until November 8th.

This initiative aims to strengthen the interrelationship between art and music, one of the museum’s distinctive features, and offer a unique emotional experience to visitors. The contest is designed to identify the most qualified candidates who will create the musical narrative associated with the upcoming exhibition, scheduled for 2025. The selected works will be integrated into the museum’s audioguides, creating a narrative thread that allows visitors to experience a sonic journey through the imagination behind the pictorial works.

The contest is open to all adults, both individuals and groups, with experience in music creation and production. Special consideration will be given to the ability to work with various artistic languages and knowledge of other disciplines, such as theater and painting. The musical style is free, but the proposals must focus on the works of the new exhibition.

Martí Pons, Head of Organization and Deputy Manager, explains that “with this contest, we want to open a new chapter in the interrelationship between art and music. We believe that music enriches the visitor’s experience, bringing the pictorial works to life in a new and exciting way.” Charline Bony, Head of Artistic and Educational Projects, adds that “the musical narrative we will create is an opportunity for composers in the country, whom we invite to explore and reinterpret our works through their music.”

For his part, Albert Gumí, Artistic Director of the ONCA Foundation, states that “once again, we are excited to collaborate on this initiative. Music has the power to connect us to the emotions and the story behind each pictorial work, and we are eager to see how the candidates will use their creativity to make this experience truly unique.”

Interested parties must submit a resume detailing their musical experience, two artistic proposals of up to 30 seconds, and a brief explanation of them. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, November 8th. A selection committee, made up of members of the ONCA Foundation and the Carmen Thyssen Museum, will evaluate the proposals, and the final result will be announced on Monday, November 18th.

The selected candidates will receive a fee ranging from 1,100 to 4,400 euros, depending on the number of candidates chosen. If the committee considers that the proposals do not meet the criteria, the prize may be left vacant.
