INSIDE Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra

INSIDE Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra brings you every Monday the opinion of one member of the museum staff,  sharing what is inside the Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra, beyond the works of extraordinary quality.

Today is the turn of Alicia Luño’s favorite artwork: “Accumulation of Canes” by the artist Arman.

This work is part of the exhibition “Influencers in art. From Van Goyen to Pop Art ”and is a piece of the accumulations series, in which cans of Cherry Coke are stacked inside a block of epoxy resin.

According to Alicia, “in this work, Arman explores the concept of accumulation and the loss of meaning of an object, not only in the Duchamp’s way and the Dadaist anti-art that symbolizes the decontextualization of the object itself; but it also represents a critique of consumer society.

For me, its strength as a contemporary art,  lies in the power of the work to make visitors stop, ask questions to themselves and think on the meaning of art itself and objects. ”
