INSIDE Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra brings you every Monday the opinion of one member of the museum staff, sharing what is inside the Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra, beyond the works of extraordinary quality.
Today is the turn of Marta Cudinach’s favourite artwork: “Caña“, 1956 – 57, by the artist Antonio Saura.
In my view, this works stands out for its plastic forcefulness. This canvas is full of action, it splits from geometric structures which predetermine to arrange the forms in order to achieve their complete destruction. Saura tracks his intuition for, through the spontaneous gestures, reaching the abstraction at its pure state.
The main character of this work is a woman, analysed by Saura since the deconstruction of her body. This difficult to see woman heats always debate in the exhibition hall. “it might be the
representation of women complexity” contributed a visitor; could be, I agree that is a complex artwork, but nonetheless it invites to enter into dialogue with, regardless the aesthetic preferences one might have.
It is impressive how children connect with this painting, may be because they are still quite away from the standard patterns.
