Conference EL CEMENTIRI MÉS FAMÓS DE PARÍS

On Thursday, November 10, the conference “The most famous cemetery in Paris” was held, by Charline Bony. Père Lachaise Cemetery is the largest intramural cemetery in Paris, the capital of France, and one of the most famous in the world. It is located at number 16, Rue du Repos, in the xx arrondissement.

The name given to the cemetery is a tribute to François d’Aix de la Chaise (1624-1709), known as Père la Chaise, who was confessor to King Louis XIV and who exercised a moderating influence on him. On May 21, 1804, the cemetery was officially opened, however, this cemetery was not well received by Parisians, who did not want to be buried outside of Paris. All styles of funerary art are represented and its green paths host a large number of graves of famous men and women, such as Honoré de Balzac, Guillaume Apollinaire, Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Camille Pissarro or Oscar Wilde.

The speaker, Charline Bony, has a degree in the field of the art market, with a master’s degree in medieval history, specializing in iconographic influences and exchanges between Christians and Muslims. In Paris, he worked as a gallerist, before moving to Brittany to broaden his horizons. Currently, Charline works in the production team of the Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra.
