Mercedes Lasarte (1940 -), Argentine contemporary painter, has a particular place in the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza collection. A great friend of Baroness Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, she seduced the collector with her expressive synthetic and decorative work. The artist’s portrait play wisely warm and cold colors, drawing on post-Impressionism, Fauvism and especially pop culture from the 70’s and 80’s. Between influences and his own style, the aesthetic work of Mercedes Lasarte can be described as a paradoxically frontal work with a great depth.
