Celebration of the International Museum Day: “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine”.

Once again this year, the Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra is taking part in the celebration of International Museum Day!

To celebrate International Museum Day on 18 May, the Museums of Andorra and the Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra will focus on the impressionist painter Joaquim Mir and his work Champs de Santa Coloma, which is part of the Crèdit Andorrà Art Collection.

Following the theme of the International Council of Museums (ICOM): ” The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine “, and to promote synergies between institutions, we propose to participate in activities, conferences and open days to enjoy the culture and heritage of the country.

On the weekend of 15 and 16 May and on Tuesday 18 May, the MCTA is organising Open Days! Come and see the current exhibition of the Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra: Talented Painters of the Same Origin. From Rigalt to Puigdengolas, free of charge.

We start this programme with a very special workshop of @cthyssenandorra a #pleinair!

This new edition will take place outside the Espai Columba and will allow families to reinterpret the environment that inspired Mir in the 1930s to create his work: Fields of Santa Coloma. Participants, both professionals and amateurs, will have gouache and easels at their disposal to create their unique work!

The programme continues with a conference by the art historian and specialist in 19th and early 20th century aesthetics, Francesc Fontbona.

During this conference, which will take place in the MCTA exhibition hall, you will be able to discover an artistic and historical analysis of the key work of this event: Champs de Santa Coloma, which is part of the Art Collection of Crèdit Andorrà. • Conference by Maritxell Mateu, Church of Santa Coloma

Historical presentation on the events that took place in the church in the year that Mir i Trinxet’s work was painted

Saturday 22nd May, 5:00 pm

Finally, the programme of activities will be completed with a conference by the historian Meritxell Mateu.

The talk will deal with the events that took place inside the church, almost contemporaneously with Joaquim Mir’s painting of the building’s exterior. Meritxell Mateu made it possible to buy back this heritage jewel so that it could return to its original place. Throughout the conference, she will talk about the journey the paintings have been through from the moment they were torn down (1932 – 1933), until their definitive return in 2007.

Book your place by phone on 836 908.

Are you unable to attend the presentations? No problem! You will be able to follow the two lectures by streaming through a link that we will give you!
